Emarèse

The sunny area of Emarèse is a real panoramic balcony from which the gaze sweeps over various peaks, from the Rosa dei Banchi to the Mont Emilius and even to the Mont-Blanc.
Being a prevalently agricultural town, it keeps an ancient atmosphere and its position, a bit more secluded if compared to other towns of the central valley, definitely assures relax and peace. The route leading to the Col Tzecore, a direct connection with the Ayas valley, also joins various picturesque villages.

WHAT TO SEE
● The romantic parish church of San Pantaleone which lies right in the heart of the municipal territory.
● The Abbé Trèves study centre, a museum which illustrates both the life and the works of one of the most distinguished men of the Valdôtain history of the XX century, the abbot Joseph-Marie Trèves, who was born in Emarèse. Profoundly aware of both the social and economic problems of his time, the abbot Trèves fought for women’s rights and against illiteracy.
The Saint Roch chapel at the beginning of the hamlet of Erésaz. Partly rebuilt between 1978 and 1979, it is also dedicated to the Holy Family and to Saint Mary of the Snows and it holds the remains of the abbot Trèves.

NATURE AND SPORT
In the region of Emarèse nature went wild and created some particular geological formations: the “Borna da ghiasa” (hole in the ice), a hollow in the rock from which blows a constant wave of cold air, the “Lot lake”, a ‘ghost lake’ which is only occasionally full, and a rock pinnacle whose shape is quite similar to an eagle’s beak, and that is why this formation is locally known as ‘Bec de l’Uja’.
An easy route that leads to the Col de Joux starts from the hamlet of Sommarèse: it is an ideal track to be done either on foot or by mountain bike in summer or with the showshoes in winter. The path to reach the Testa di Comagna is a bit more difficult.
In the hamlet of Erésaz there is a bowls court which is also used to play palet, a traditional Valdôtain game

EVENTS AND TRADITIONS
Saint Roch patron saint festival: on the days around 15th August, Saint Roch, the patron saint of the hamlet of Erésaz, is celebrated: it is an occasion to enjoy a rich program of events dedicated to sport, traditions, good food and music.

FOR THE LITTLE ONES
Kids cannot get bored thanks to the numerous playgrounds available in the town centre Emarèse, at Col Tzecore, close to the picnic area at the border with the municipality of Challand-Saint-Anselme, in the hamlet of Chassan, in the hamlet of Erésaz, in the hamlet of Ravet and finally in the hamlet of Sommarèse.
