Jovençan

In the vast Aosta basin on the right bank of the Dora, between vineyards and fruit orchards at an altitude of 632 metres, it was inhabited as early as Roman times, to which it owes the name “Juventius”;
In Medieval times it was governed by the Jovençan lords and the remains from that period, of the fifteenth century castle, are visible.
The municipality’s main activity is the cultivation of fruit trees – pears and apples. Grape growing that starts at an altitude of 550 and continues up to 850 metres, is yet another of the area’s activities.
Cattle rearing is another florid industry, that produces not only milk, butter and cheese, but also contributes to keeping alive the “Bataille des reines” tradition. In fact, numerous winners of the various editions of the Bataille come from stables in Jovençan.
The traditional local sport of “rebatta” is very popular.
