Saint-Denis

In a large, sunny valley, 809 metres above sea level and on the left mountain slope of the Dora, this town is a real terrace over the central valley.
It owes it notoriety to Cly Castle, the primitive fortification built on one of the rocky spurs a short distance from the town centre, overlooking the villages below. The ruins of the castle can be visited during the summer season.
The economy of the town is mainly agricultural, with wine making important for the production of “Muscat de Chambave”.
There are numerous mills and bakeries in the village, confirming a particularly flourishing agricultural past.
Among the most picturesque routes, we would like to highlight the walks to Colle Saint-Pantaléon and Saint-Evance. These easy trips are also accessible to not so sporting types; normally, you can also take these walks in the winter period because they are well exposed to the sun throughout the day.
