The trail crosses through vast meadows and farmland at the bottom of the valley and unique natural areas such as the Les Iles di Saint-Marcel wetlands nature reserve – an important nesting site – and then connects places of cultural interest, such as castles (including Gamba, Cly and the magnificent Fénis Castle) and the city of Aosta, bursting with over 2,500 years of history.

2 Up close with the Matterhorn: on an e-bike to explore the secrets of Valtournenche

This trail explores a unique corner of the Aosta Valley, where natural environments and awe-inspiring panoramas come into view with every pedal stroke, all under the majestic silhouette of the Matterhorn, or “la Gran Becca” as it’s known by the valley locals.
You pedal among chestnut forests, meadows, mountain fields and villages where remnants of an ancient way of life can still be seen, such as old water mills and traditional ovens for baking rye bread. Load the bike onto the cable car and you’ll soon reach the village of Chamois, the Pearl of the Alps and the only Italian Municipality that cannot be reached by car.
