Fontina Cheese Tour
This route links some of the most important high mountain pastures where the Aosta Valley's Protected Designation of Origin cheese «Fontina» is produced. Along the trail you can enjoy stunning views on the 4,000-metre high peaks that made the history of mountaineering.

Programme and itinerary
Arrival in Courmayeur (1.224 m) at the Hotel Berthod. Different activities are available as well as the option of enjoying the hotel’s wellness area. Overnight stay at the hotel. Please note that the evening meal is not included.
‘Saveurs du Val d'Aoste’ breakfast, to discover the genuine flavours of the typical Aosta Valley products. A packed lunch is provided by the hotel. Transfer to Lavachey (1,700 m) in the Ferret Valley, ascent to Malatrà Pass (2,925 m) going past the mountains
pastures with the same name as well as the pasture of Gioè. Descent into the Great St. Bernard Valley through the Merdeux valley and its pastures, up to Bosses. The tour then goes on to Saint-Oyen (1,373 m) and Etroubles (1,270 m), with a visit to the characteristic villages and museums in the area. Evening meal and overnight stay at the hotel.

Breakfast at the hotel, followed by a visit to the villages. A packed lunch is provided by the hotel upon starting off. From Etroubles we go up to the Chaligne Hut (1,943 m)
following a trail among larches and through pastures. Visit to a pasture with dairy to watch milking and the Fontina cheese making process. Wellness activities (Dutchtub and sauna) are available and you can also enjoy the sunset over the Matterhorn. In the evening, ‘Saveurs’, a meal to discover the flavours of typical Aosta Valley products, and overnight stay at the hut.

The excursion takes you up to the Chaligne peak (2,607 m) and includes a visit to the mountain pastures to watch milking and the Fontina cheese making process. Then, descent to the Refuge, where you can relax with Wellness activities (Dutchtub and sauna) and enjoy ‘Saveurs’, an evening meal to discover the flavours of typical Aosta Valley products, and overnight stay.

The shelf of Mont Fallère option
‘Saveurs du Val d'Aoste’ breakfast. A packed lunch is provided upon starting off from the Chaligne Hut. The excursion takes you up to the Chaligne peak (2,607 m), which boasts a stunning 360° view. Visit to the high-mountain pastures, crossing of the southern shelf of Mont Fallère; lunch on the shore of Fallère lake. Afterwards, descent to the Mont Fallère Hut (2,385 m) for an evening meal and overnight stay.
