Saint-Christophe

Just 3 km far from Aosta, in a wide hilly area among orchards and vineyards, on the left orographic side of the Dora Baltea river, Saint-Christophe enjoys a particularly sunny position in all seasons of the year. The altitude is between 540 metres of the valley floor and over 2.800 metres of Mont Mary and Becca di Viou. The privileged location with respect to the city of Aosta has favoured the settlement of numerous commercial activities in the area facing the main road; the economy of the village also relies on breeding and agriculture.

WHAT TO SEE
● The Passerin d'Entrèves Castle, surrounded by a vast park, expanded and transformed into a stately home, still inhabited by the Counts Passerin d’Entrèves. It preserves a rich collection of art objects and can be visited during events and festivals.
● The parish church has a high Romanesque bell tower surmounted by a pyramidal spire, open with mullioned windows. It preserves a precious triumphal crucifix of 1400, considered one of the most important works of art of the entire Aosta Valley heritage.

NATURE AND SPORT
In Saint-Christophe there is no shortage of pleasant walks well exposed to the sun that can be done on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike. Among these are the routes along the famous “rus”, ancient irrigation canals of medieval origin used to irrigate the fields, such as the ru Pompillard which, starting from the hamlet of Veynes, reaches the municipality of Roisan.
On the border with the municipality of Quart is the regional airport Corrado Gex, licensed for commercial flights and for gliding and motor flying.

FEASTS AND TRADITIONS
● Rencountro di s-Alpeun, the Alpine festival held on the third week of June in Senin-Croux. Three days of cooking, music and traditional games just nearby Aosta.
● The patron saint’s feast, which is celebrated in the sports area in Prevot on 25th July with musical entertainment and delicious specialities.

FOR THE LITTLE ONES
In the hamlets of the village there are numerous and well-equipped playgrounds.
Not to miss the Children’s Carnival, a fancy dress party dedicated to the little ones that takes place in February on the occasion of the Carnival of Sorreley.
