Cable systems
A dizzying view
Wherever there are mountains cableways are never far behind. Valle d'Aosta is no exception, the region's numerous cableways, which were once also used for mineral extraction, are now used as ski-lifts for skiers or as a necessary means of transport for reaching poorly accessible areas. The cableway that links Buisson (a town on the Valtournenche road) to Chamois will lead you to the only
municipality where you won't encounter a single car, not due to traffic limitations, but simply because you can't get there by car. Another suggestive experience is to cross Mont Blanc by cableway. During the summer, in less than two hours, departing from La Palud (in Courmayeur) you can reach Chamonix, via a breathtaking route: just taking a few minutes to cover impressive differences in altitude.
