Santuario de la Clavalité

A medium-length route through the beautiful Cheneil hollow: from this enchanting corner you can enjoy some wonderful panoramic views towards the Matterhorn and the Grandes Murailles.

From the car park you follow the directions for Cheneil, climb up along the mule-track until you reach the charming clearing where the village is located.

Walk across the level clearing towards the houses in the village. Once through the village, you take the well-beaten track until you come to a signpost: continue straight on for another 50 metres or so and then turn left and start climbing up diagonally through the woods (the track is normally beaten). After about ten minutes you come to a small clearing in the middle of some larch trees. At this point, a fairly difficult stretch begins, where the downhill skiers’ tracks are clearly seen. This stretch of pathway goes along a small ridge until you reach the beaten track once more. Follow the path towards Colle di Fontana Fredda: here you can take a short-cut avoiding some of the wide hairpin bends, though the climb can be arduous in some points. Once past the last fairly steep stretch, the beaten track bears right pointing straight towards the Colle di Fontana Fredda.

When you glimpse the ski-lift arrival point, turn left and it takes you a few minutes to walk along the stretch separating the Colle from the Santuario de la Clavalité.

When you reach the Sanctuary, you can at last enjoy the stunningly beautiful view over the Matterhorn and the Grandes Murailles as well as over the adjoining peaks: Monte Roisetta and Grand Tournalin.
