Bionaz

A huge agricultural community that runs alongside the Buthier River, Bionaz is a crossroads connecting various districts in Valle d‘Aosta to Switzerland, through its many hills.

An amphitheatre of high peaks culminating in Dent d‘Hérens (4,171 m) enclosing a showcase of glaciers that supply the various Alpine lakes and the large hydro-electric basin of Place Moulin (105 million m³ of water).

Since the land is rather remote, the areas within the municipality are distinguished by a high level of nature and a wealth of wild fauna (ibex, chamois, deer, goats, marmots, eagles, etc.).

The town, situated at 1,600 metres above sea level, provides testimonies of country and religious life over the centuries.

You can admire the parish church from the XVII century, the chapels, the local bakeries to cook “black” bread, various wooden chalets, the priest’s house and La Bâtise, which hosts a youth hostel.

Sports on offer in the summer include excursions for all levels, climbs on equipped walls, mountain-biking and trout fishing in lakes and rivers.

In winter you can go cross-country skiing on the piste in Lexert (7 km), try a biathlon thanks to the rifle range, off-track skiing and icy waterfall ascents.
