Art and culture
The area boasts a wealth of important religious buildings. Worth mentioning are the Parish Church of La Thuile, with an eighteenth-century tabernacle and a wooden crucifix dating to between the 15 th and 16 th centuries (which miraculously escaped profanation on the part of French soldiers in 1794), the Parish Church of Morgex, dating back to the 5 th or 6 th century, and the Sanctuary of Notre-Dame de la Guérison , at the beginning of the Val Veny, frequented by pilgrims. The walls of the sanctuary are covered by a series of interesting ex-voto paintings that illustrate the miracles worked by the Virgin. The alpine traditions of the Courmayeur guides are illustrated in the Duca degli Abruzzi Alpine Museum .
Local craft objects in wood, stone or wrought iron can be admired during a number of fairs, such as the Foire de la Pâquerette held in Courmayeur on Easter Monday, the Foire des Glaciers in Pré-Saint-Didier on 30 th Decembrer, the Foire du Valdigne, a travelling fair that visits the five municipalities of the area, and the “Pass' Pitchü” in La Thuile.
