Botanic Gardens

There are four Alpine botanical gardens in Valle d’Aosta, evidence of the awareness and input given by the Autonomous Regional Council of Valle d’Aosta to preserving the natural heritage and, in particular, in protecting the floristic heritage. These gardens are Chanousia, at the Little St Bernard pass, Saussurea at the Mount Blanc Pavillon, Paradisia in Cogne
and Castel Savoia in Gressoney-Saint-Jean. The first two are managed by private foundations: Paradisia through a convention with the National Park of Gran Paradiso while the management of Castel Savoia is entrusted to the Regional Administration. A specific regional law, Law No. 40 of 5 August 1994, ensures allocation of annual contributions to the bodies
and foundations that manage these alpine botanical gardens of particular scientific interest. These four places offer the naturalist a useful research tool while offering the visitor the chance to discover the characteristic mountain environment and alpine flora.
