Round trip around the gardens and the castle

Free of charge for all participants staying in some accommodation facilities affiliated to the tourist consortium.
- Time and place of departure: 10 a.m. at the Bar Sport car park.
- Route description: After taking the Lombardy road, you will reach the Valdobbia vegetable gardens, where the Paysage à manger farm is located. Here Federico will explain the journey of this young but now well-established business, which on the one hand wants to ‘go back to its origins’, focusing on an ancient craft, but also looking to the future and the environmental sustainability. From here, a short climb takes you to the Savoy Castle with its fascinating park and rock garden full of rare Alpine botanical species. You will then descend towards Ronken to reach the fields and vegetable gardens of the Walser Garten company in Woald, where the young Umberto will illustrate the products and specificities of his job. Return on the orographic right.
- Further infos: packed lunch to be taken by the participants; children under 4 years old must be carried in the baby carrier. The hike is not recommended for people over the age of 75.
Discover the Gressoney valley with the Nature Guides who will organize a rich programme of excursions for the summer season 2020. Every Tuesday the hikes will end with a visit to vegetable gardens or mountain pastures with a tasting of local products (when possible), a way to get to know the delicacies of the territory.
On Tuesday 20th July, the proposed excursion takes the hikers to discover the vegetable gardens of the Paysage à Manger farm, a young and well-established company that has wanted on the one hand to ‘go back to its origins’ by focusing on an ancient craft, but also to look to the future and the environmental sustainability. Then, after a climb towards the Savoy Castle with its fascinating botanical garden, we reach the fields and vegetable gardens of the Walser Garten farm run by Umberto in the hamlet of Woald.
Duration: 4 h total, including the hike and the visit to the farms

Difficulty: E – medium, suitable for everyone

Recommended equipment: hiking boots, wind stopper jacket, polar fleece, backpack.
In case of bad weather it will be possible to make up the missed activity within the same week.
