This is a nice and easy walk that offers a lovely view of the city of Aosta, passing through orchards and vineyards, coasting along the forest, between the municipalities of Aymavilles, Jovençan, Gressan and Charvensod.

Description of the route

After you’ve visited the churches of Saint Léger and Cristo Re, you’ll start your gentle climb from the centre of Aymavilles, moving up from the town towards the hamlet of Montbel. Quite literally immersed in the captivating vineyards, you’ll reach the boundary with the forest and you’ll stay on a long stretch that is almost flat halfway up.

Once you enter the municipality of Jovençan you’ll be welcomed by the medieval centre of Pompiod and the distinctive town that will lead you to the interesting Maison des Anciens Remèdes.

Still halfway up the mountain, you will get to the hamlet of Moulin di Gressan where the eco-museum, Maison de Gargantua, is well worth a visit. It is named after the unmistakeable moraine known as the “little finger of Gargantua”. An extremely unique nature reserve is found here which features an extremely arid landscape with aromatic Mediterranean plants.

Once you have passed through the town of Gressan, you’ll climb again, following the stream until you get to the hamlet, Château di Charvensod, from where you will then descend to return to the valley floor and, once across the Dora Baltea, you will have reached Aosta.
