Rock engravings

Bard

The engravings are to be found mainly inside an interesting archaeological park situated near the Bard fortress, and where you can also see various geomorphological details: erratic boulders, “marmitte dei giganti” (gigantic pots), sheepskin humps and an historical landslide.
Rock engravings dating back to the end of the Neolithic period (3000-2700 B.C) are to be found on a smooth rock in the glaciers between Bard and Donnas. They are made up of two long serpentine lines and are the oldest example of votive art in the Valley. The rock alongside known as “sghiata” (with gravel removed) or “slide for women” was probably used by locals for propitiatory rites linked to fertility.
