Where to sleep: Gressoney-La-Trinité

The refuge is dedicated to the memory of abbot Giovanni Gnifetti, the parish priest of Alagna, explorer of Monte Rosa and the first to climb Signalkuppe in 1842, the summit which has now his name.
The history of Capanna Gnifetti reads much like the history of Sezione del Cai Varallo (the Cai Varallo Section).

The Orestes Hütte mountain hut is located at the foot of Monte Rosa, in the Conca di Indren, in the heart of the Monterosa Ski area.

It is an ideal destination for ski touring, off-piste skiing and snowshoeing enthusiasts in winter, while in summer it welcomes trekkers, hikers and mountaineers.
Surrounded by spectacular alpine scenery, it is the perfect place for those who love nature and tranquillity.

The refuge also stands out for its vegetarian and vegan cuisine, offering authentic and sustainable dishes in a unique mountain setting.

How to get there in summer:

On foot:

From Staffal (1,825 m) along trails 7A and 6B 
Walking time: approximately 3 hours
Difficulty : E excurtion route
Elevation gain: approxy 775m

From Staffal 1825m along trail 7C 
Walking time: approx. 3 hours
Difficulty:  E excurtion route
Elevation gain: approx. 790m

Alternative: Staffal-Gabiet cable car. Upon arrival at the cable car, take trail 6B
Difficulty : E excurtion route
Elevation gain: approx. 300m

 

How to get there in winter/spring:

On foot/with snowshoes/ski touring: take the Staffal-Gabiet cable car and then follow the ski lift marked with green poles in the direction of the Salati pass. At an altitude of about 2,600 metres, follow the orange poles to the refuge, passing by the Indren dam.
Walking time:  about 1h30
Elevation gain: approx. 300m

 

 

Situated on the ridge of the Felik.
A starting point for many excursions on the Monte Rosa among which the Castore and the Lyskamm.

The Anderbatt inn, located around 600m away from the ski-lifts of the Monterosa-ski Resort, is the result of a complete renovation. There are 6 double rooms available, furnished with care and style, and a reading room with a splendid view over Mont Rose. The experience is enhanced by the possibility of dining at the restaurant on the ground floor of the house. Here, simple, wholesome dishes and local and regional products are offered. It is even possible to have lunch in the garden.

Once a hunting lodge, a favourite of Margherita di Savoia, queen of Italy, who used it as her favourite summer residence.<br>Today, it is part of the artistic heritage of the Valle d’Aosta and it opens its doors in its new role as Tourism Hotel Residential Complex.<br>The farm, linked to the hunting lodge by a new indoor facility, is now used as a bar, for refreshments and as a meeting point and for entertainment.
