Accesso

Châtillon motorway exit. Drive up along the SR46 of Valtournenche until you reach Antey-Saint-André: turn right towards La Magdeleine. After about 5 km you come to a junction on the right for Promiod, on a hairpin bend. Take this narrow road until you reach the car park before the village.

Very demanding hike but undoubtedly worth the effort with the amazing 360° panoramic views over all the Val d’Aosta peaks.

From Promiod, follow the signs along path 105 and in a short time you reach a farm track. When you reach the road, go across it and continue on along the pathway again until you reach the road once more, a little further on near a mission cross. Follow the lane that climbs up along the valley going towards Col Portola, meeting the ruins of Boettes along the way. A little further on you find a signpost: continue straight on following path 105 going through a beautiful fir-wood; the road proceeds gently downwards until you come to the catchment point of the Promiod torrent.
Cross the snowy stream and then climb up the mountainside round a few bends until you reach a small clearing at the foot of the Alpine cottages of Arsine. Go past Arsine taking the hairpin-bend round the houses and start climbing again as you enter the wood once more. Here the vegetation is much denser and then you emerge into a magnificent area of snow-covered pastures: stunningly beautiful views are guaranteed! Continue straight on following the faint tracks of the pathway until you reach the edge of the wood: here you turn left amd make your way towards the Alpine pastures of Francou desot, without following a specific track. You continue on going north-eastwards as far as Francou damon: just before you reach the Alpine pastures, you come across a signpost where you turn right and climb up through the wood until you come to the wide summit ridge. From here you continue eastwards along the ridge until you come to the pre-peak (the characteristic hump seen from the valley bottom); continue walking along the crest which gradually narrows and steepens until you come to the peak and its characteristic Madonna.
