Фьолет

TYPE OF GAME
Throwing an oval ball hit with a bat.

OBJECTIVE
Hit a ball in the air with a bat and try to strike it as far away as possible.

GAME MATERIALS
An oval ball ("fiolet"); a rounded base ("pira"), once a smooth river stone and now a specifically manufactured piece; a bat ("eima") that terminates in a large head ("maciocca").

HOW TO PLAY
The player sets the "fiolet" on the "pira", which is at least 20 cm from the ground, balancing it under the flat part; the "eima" is grasped with one hand only, delicately hitting the "fiolet" with the "maciocca" to make it bounce in the air; then it is hit again in the air with full force, to send it as far away as possible. The length of the strike determines the score to award, based on a point every 15 metres. In the team championship the team score is given by the sum of points for the five players on the team. The best individual player is awarded a trophy called the "Bâton d'or": the winners are awarded an artistically etched "eima", with the names of all the winners from previous years which they can keep for one year. It is then given back for the next championship.

TOOLS
"Fiolet" : an oval ball, now made either of wood weighted with copper and bronze nails or of plastic wrapped around a metal casing core or of metal.    "Pira" : a round stone used to position the "fiolet".
"Eima" : a wooden, 80 -100 cm bat that terminates with a solid, wooden "head" , called the "maciocca".

THE PLAYING FIELD
It's a flat field, at least 150 metres long, with a circular section divided in fifteen metre strips, which determine the strike score.
