The hike includes the climb to the Duca degli Abruzzi refuge, starting point for the alpine ascent to the summit of the Matterhorn. The ascent to the Matterhorn follows the trail named Jean Antoine Carrel, which allows the observation and study of morainic environments. The return takes place descending the moraines of the Matterhorn and reaching Plan Maison and its wide pastures.
