The Bard Fort launches a new exhibition project showcasing the work of one of the great masters of international contemporary photography, Steve McCurry. Mountain Men is the title of a collaboration between the Bard Fort, Steve McCurry Studios and Sudest57, exploring the themes of mountain life and the complex interaction between man and mountains.

A selection of landscapes, portraits and everyday life scenes highlight the continuous and necessary process of adaptation undertaken by mountain communities, which influences all aspects of people’s lives: from productive activities to leisure time, from the types of settlement, farming and breeding to transport systems and vehicles.

The key theme of this exhibition is mountain life to reveal through a series of images the anthropological traits of mountain communities, who live up in the mountains, the relationship and interaction between man, the environment and non-flat regions. Mountains have a considerable impact on man’s way of life and all his activities, from transportation to leisure time, from agriculture to energy production, together with the cost of life itself.

As well as introducing Steve McCurry’s extensive work to the general public, the exhibition hosts a preview of the photo shoot that took place over the course of three periods of scouting and shooting, between 2015 and 2016, with the Aosta Valley region and its mountains as backdrop; a proper open-air “mountain lab” on mountain life, whose highlights include the four 4000m peaks of the Alps: Mont Blanc, Matterhorn, Gran Paradiso and Monte Rosa.

The exhibition also offers visitors the opportunity to watch the screening, in high definition, of over 290 iconic photos shot by the great photographer and a video exploring the backstage and making of the shooting in Aosta Valley.

This exhibition project gives all photo enthusiasts the opportunity to register for a two and a half day workshop with the great photographer, starting on Friday until Sunday and scheduled from 15 to 17 September 2017. There is a limit of 20 people as the maximum number of participants (for information, please email eventi@fortedibard.it).
