The first superhero in history is not American and is not called Superman but is a Japanese superheroine, and was born in 1848. The exhibition Heroes. Evolution of a myth. From Ancient and Contemporary Japan, set up in the rooms of the Cellars of the Bard Fort, explores this surprising genealogy and through an unprecedented journey, among prints by Hokusai, Kuniyoshi and Kunisada, paintings and tapestries, it recounts the evolution of the concept of the hero and the profound differences that emerge between the heroic figures of Mediterranean culture and those of the Japanese imagination, with its ancient heroes and its popular contemporary superheroes.
