The three lakes of Frudière (2039 m - 2223 m) are known and appreciated for the beauty of the natural context in which they are located. According to Mario Aldrovandi, the source of the toponym Frudiera derives from Frutiers, that is, the makers of fontina. Other sources confirm this assertion, specifying that freidera, in patois (local dialect), designates the underground room where the dairy products are stored. The lakes at 2039 and 2233 metres above sea level at the end of the wild Graines Valley are protected to the north by the severe and overhanging walls of Monte Rena (2512), Taille (2521m) and Taf (2523); to the south even higher walls rise up to 2678 metres of Punta Champlon, to 2887 metres of Punta di Soleron and to 3075 metres of the magnificent Mont Nery or Becca Frudiera.
