October 2022 – Due to work in progress in the hamlet of Arpuilles, a short section of the stage has been diverted to a path adjacent to the original one. Take a look at the attached variant map.
Looking out over a scenic open terrace on the valley floor and to the peaks that overlook Aosta, you’ll take this long, sunny path, passing by the highest villages in the municipalities of Sarre and Saint-Pierre.
Description of the route
You’ll take the path that leads in the direction of Pléod from the small village of Arpuilles, within the vast municipal area of Sarre.
This is a medium-difficulty walk that offers lovely views from above of the castles, orchards and vineyards that distinguish the entrance to the Upper Aosta Valley.
This airy landscape featuring nature in its roughest and most essential form provides panoramic views of the valley floor and the surrounding mountain peaks and it is here that you will reach the village of Vetan at last: a place imbued with a pervasive charm within an atmosphere where it seems as though times has stood still.
The vast vineyards of Saint-Pierre and Aymavilles dominate this route from above, framing and highlighting the towers and castles that are scattered across the landscape.
