Church of Santa Colomba

Charvensod

The parish church of Santa Colomba, dating back to 1622, was raised and enlarged in 1830-1831. Its main altar, in gilded and carved wood, probably dates back to the 18th century, like the two side altars, dedicated to the Rosary and to Saint Anthony.
Among the objects of sacred art stand out a reliquary in silvered and gilded copper and a processional cross in silver foil, both of the fifteenth century.
History
The parish of Charvensod is already mentioned in a document dated 2 June 1180 with which the bishop of Aosta gives it to the Provost of Verrès. In 1248 or 1249 it returned to be part of the bishopric of Aosta.
In 1308, the bishop Emeric I of Quart assigned to the vicar an income from land and censuses adjacent to the episcopal palace (castle of Charvensod), which was located near the church itself. Of the latter, only the leftovers of a circular turret remain in the northwest corner of the surrounding wall.
