Alpine guides  -  Courmayeur

The Courmayeur Alpine guides association, free Alpine guides association, was founded in 1850 as a non-operant company and the second guides association to be founded in the world.

At the beginning the guides accompanied the clients in the surrounding areas crossing the Alpine foothills, but with the second climb from the Italian side from Monte Bianco in1863, the Courmayeur guides expanded their operations considerably from 1870 onwards in a series of new climbs. At the beginning of 1900 the first expeditions outside Europe were organised
This was the great era of Arctic, Antarctic and Himalayan expeditions, and mountaineering was growing in popularity.
The Alpine guide’s work is no longer limited to guiding mountaineers in the summer but also other pursuits in the winter. The association also organises rock and ice climbing other than the traditional pursuits. The majority of winter work is high-mountain skiing such as at the Vallée Blanche, the Toula and the Haute Route. For a few years there have been beginner climbing lessons integrated with theory on Alpine flora and fauna The association manages its operations at Rifugio Monzino (shelter) and the Museo Alpino Duca degli Abruzzi (Abruzzi Alps museum).

The Courmayeur Alpine guides association offers mountaineers and skiiers a whole range of quality services, constantly updating their practices

The prestigious Alpine guides association offers: snow-shoe walks, ice-falls, winter and summer mountaineering, high-mountain and off-piste skiing, heliski, indoor climbing, collective climbs, classic climbs, canyoning and hiking.
