Allein - Mont Saron

One-day excursions  -  Allein

From the municipal seat of Allein, take route 24 behind the church, and go up to the hamlet of Ville (1405 m). At the chapel, continue on the left and descend to the former windmill, then go back up to Bruson (1479 m). From here, continue on the left on the private road until you come to the first bend (just before this point, ignore route 23 on the left) where you follow the small road that branches off to Alpe Bossolaz, the departure point of the path that you previously abandoned on the right of the road. This goes into the woods, crosses the dirt road (signposted 25B), then goes along a flat section to the pasture of Fontaines (1892 m). Start climbing again up to another pasture called Parc (2014 m) and continue inside the woods, which become less dense and leave space to the alpine meadow, until you come to a spring in Fontanin. From here, head towards the western crest of Mont Saron, which you follow up the summit.

Daillon-Alpe Ponteille

One-day excursions  -  Allein

Leave the car in Daillon, in the municipality of Allein, then continue after the village and is signposted 25B. This trail gradually climbs to reach the crossroad with the left detour for Alpe Crou, which you should ignore and continue right on the track that follows the brook. The trail is flat here and leads to Maurier, Comba and lastly Berruard.
You can continue the excursion to the source of the canal at Alpe Pointier. The entire trail is about 6 km.

Hérin - Lod lake

One-day excursions  -  Antey-Saint-André

By car, about 500 meters after the church of Antey-Saint-André you will turn on the left at the crossroad to the village of Hérin and then after 2 km you will leave your car at the small parking. Hérin is a village that maintained its features, recently the old houses have been restored keeping the original features of the mountain village, with stone and wood as main elements.
When you will reach the small chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara, you will go down to the right to the village and near the first houses you will take to path n° 105. First you will cross the meadows and then in the steapest part you will go through the wood and arrive in a farm road in front of the small lake. You will find a small playground area with benches.

Le Bourg - Brengon (La Magdeleine)

One-day excursions  -  Antey-Saint-André

In Le Bourg, municipal capital of Antey-Saint-André, take route 107 and 3. After alternating sections on the path and on the paved road you come to the hamlet of Hérin. From here, continue on the left branch until you come to a crossroad just below the destination point. Go left again and you soon come to Messelod.

Le Bourg - Lod

Route 4 crosses the paved road several times on its way to La Magdeleine, connecting the municipal capital with the hamlets lying further up, known as the Trois Villes (Lod, Chaillien and Noussan) of Antey-Saint-André. Near Lod you will find the lake of the same name.

Les Grands-Moulins - Mongnod (Torgnon)

One-day excursions  -  Antey-Saint-André

Take the sometimes very wide mule track 6 (107 and 3 balteus, too) in Les Grands-Moulins, in the municipality of Antey-Saint-André, used by townspeople when there was no paved road connecting Antey to Torgnon. As you go up, crossing and using several sections of the paved road, you come to the hamlets of Navillod, Gombaz and Nozon. From here, the itinerary also includes sections of private roads and takes you to Mazod, Valleil and Champeille, from where you soon reach Mongnod.

Nuarsaz- Corgnolaz

One-day excursions  -  Antey-Saint-André

When you get to Nuarsaz, a hamlet within the municipality of Antey-Saint-André, along the paved road that leaves the regional road for Valtournenche after the village of Buisson (near the cableway car park for Chamois), take trail 2, which initially goes up on the orographic left bank of the Chamois stream and then leads rightwards along the steep path to La Ville. From here, take the dirt road on which it is an easy climb to Corgnolaz, seat of the municipality of Chamois.

Ring path sport area - Fiernaz

One-day excursions  -  Antey-Saint-André

From the sport area parking, situated on the left side of the stream, take the path and leave on your right the small wood bridge taking to the sport area.
The flat path runs alongside the Marmore stream, you will find the village of Poutaz, and after about 1 km you will reach the village of Fiernaz, here you will leave the path and take the paved road inside the hamlet where you can have a small stop at the playground area.
After the village you will go further on the right, cross the bridge after the stream, and follow the path through the mixed wood (with the stroller, at a certain point, we suggest you to continue on the agricultural road until the village of Lillaz and then return on the described route) until the quiet village of Lillaz. You will then go further until the gym tools in the equipped path, the adventure park, the foot field and finally cross the wood bridge to reach the departure point.
Along the path you will find benches, and returning to the sport area it is possible to have a pic nic at the green space.

Rû de Liès

One-day excursions  -  Antey-Saint-André

The nature path Rû de Liès starts at the end of the bridge (crossroad to La Magdeleine) in the village of Champagne.
It is a flat walk, along the path you will find panels with information about history, geography, geomorphology, flora and fauna of Antey-Saint-André, and also information about climatology, environmental laws and typical products of the region. Typical mountain plain woodland which thins out at intervals along the path, leaving space for clearings cultivated with permanent meadow. Species in the hardwood coppice are Ash, Alder, Maple, Lime, Birch, goat Willow, with occasional Larch and Scottish pine.
Along the path you will find benches, and after crossing an asphalt road a small pic nic area with tables and 2 barbecues. If you will go further on you will reach the quiet village of Liès.

Hiking to Lo Tsatelet natural reserve

One-day excursions  -  Aosta

The reserve is located North-East of Aosta on a hill with steep sides, but from the flat top. It extends over 14 hectares, at an altitude of about 800m.
It is an area of considerable geomorphological and archaeological interest, with landscape aspects typical of the low mountain slopes with southern exposure. In the late Neolithic period, around 3000 BC, a human settlement occupied the top of the hill.

From the Arch of Augustus cross the stream, go over the Roman Bridge and turn left. Once you reach the underpass and the roundabout turn right, the road begins to rise and after about 100 meters take the road that climbs to the left indicated with the signpost 6. Go along the Fontaine Saint-Ours park and go up until you reach Busseyaz. Continue on the road which later becomes a dirt road. Leave the junction on the right and at the next fork, take the first right then the left. Then follow the path that branches off to the right and reaches the recreation area. Follow the path that climbs to the top of the reserve.

Arnad - Machaby Sanctuary

Leave the car in the conveniently located square in Moulin de Va at the end of the paved road from Arnad, which runs along the Va stream, then, on foot, take the paved road that goes up to the age-old chestnut grove, and leads to Machaby Sanctuary and the plateau with the village of the same name.

Arnad - Tête La Cou

One-day excursions  -  Arnad

Leave the car in the conveniently located square in Moulin de Va at the end of the paved road from Arnad, which runs along the Va stream, then, on foot, take the paved road that goes up to the age-old chestnut grove, and after fifteen minutes or so, leads to Machaby Sanctuary and the plateau with the village of the same name. The road goes up again, and after reaching and going past Arbenaz, it meets the wide La Cou saddle. From here, turn left along the crest to reach the panoramic Tête de Cou.

The route of the Arnad castles

One-day excursions  -  Arnad

The first caste on the route is the Vallaise Castle, in a panoramic position, surrounded by vineyards (not yet open to the public). Inside the castle there are many frescoes representing mythological and biblical scenes, imaginary landscapes and allegories and, in the main hall, ten views of places belonging to the possessions of the Vallaise family.
Going on, we find the remains of the Lower Castle de la Côte, another house of the Vallaise family dated XV century. The last one, the Upper Castle, stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the town and is now reduced to the state of ruin although the visit is now possible with the help of an easy scaffolding.

Baise-Pierre - Baulin (Avise)

One-day excursions  -  Arvier

Just after the tunnel on the Valgrisenche regional road n.25 take the road on the right that steeply goes up to Baise-Pierre, a small village highly exposed to the sun.
After leaving the car take, on the left, path n.20 that, between woods and small streams, reaches Milliéry hamlet and finally Baulin in Avise municipality.
From there you can enjoy a beautiful panorama on the Central Aosta Valley and on many peaks.
From Baise-Pierre you can also continue on the right, always following the itinerary n.20, to reach lake Lolair natural reserve.

Grand-Haury - Les Combes (Introd)

One-day excursions  -  Arvier

Easy walk that from Grand-Haury hamlet, above Arvier, reaches Les Combes village in Introd municipality.
By car, after Arvier’s church, follow the signs first for La Crête, then for Verney, Petit-Haury and finally Grand-Haury hamlets (10-minute drive).
The itinerary (signpost n.7) starts on the left of the parking lot at the beginning of Grand-Haury hamlet and goes up in the woods until reaching Les Combes hamlet, holiday destination of Pope John Paul II.
Grand-Haury hamlet is characterized by the typical position of its houses built around the most important places of the traditional village: the chapel, the mil and the oven, recently restored.
Also worth mentioning is the chapel dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene, dating back to 1473.

Grand-Haury - Montmayeur castle

One-day excursions  -  Arvier

By car, after Arvier’s church, follow the signs first for La Crête, then for Verney, Petit-Haury and finally Grand-Haury hamlets (10-minute drive).
After leaving the car in the parking lot at the beginning of Grand-Haury hamlet, take path n.2A under a vaulted passage between two old houses and continue slighty downhill crossing meadows, a drained marshy area and along a stream.
After reaching the fork with route n.2 that goes up from the other side of the valley turn right and continue until the castle remains.

La Ravoire - Lake Lolair nature reserve

One-day excursions  -  Arvier

From the parking lot by the side of the regional road, at the entrance of Valgrisenche valley in La Ravoire hamlet, go up following the signpost n.3, cross the village and continue on the grassy track. The path runs along stone walls and bushes, crossing various times a gravel road until a wall in the mixed forest of ash trees, whitebeams, scots pines and downy oaks.
After a last crossing you arrive to a fork near a prominent rock, turning left you reach first a chapel and finally, after the nice stone-built houses, the small Lolair lake.

Planaval - Lac du Fond - Col de la Crosatie

One-day excursions  -  Arvier

From Planaval, in the municipality of Arvier, follow the paved road towards La Clusaz and, after the village, continue to the left, then take the bend after which you come to the start of the trail (at the start of the road). This goes up through a thick wood, initially of broad-leaved trees then conifers, and comes into contact with the ruins of the Bénévy pasture, and ends at the meadows near an aqueduct basin. Go further up to reach a plateau scattered with large rocks. Now continue along the path surrounded by green meadows, then follow the section that runs alongside the stream and crosses over it to the left. The trail then climbs a ridge that leads to another plateau. Go back over the stream towards the right, then continue along a flat section until you come to the remains of Baraques du Fond pasture. Just after the pasture, the trail turns right and goes up to Lake du Fond where, after crossing the brook, it starts to flank a short section of the bank, until it returns to the path on the right that climbs up again amidst the meadows. Go up a number of grassy crags, then take a long right diagonal bend along the hillside, until you come to the final rocky leaps before reaching Col de la Crosatie.

Avise - Saint-Nicolas

One-day excursions  -  Avise

The itinerary starts from the square of Avise castle, that belonged to the Lords of Avise, one of the most important noble family in the Valdostan Middle Age. Follow the Cérellaz regional road until the fork for Le Cré hamlet, then cross the bridge over Mont Rosset creek. After passing Cré village, where you can see the remains of another medieval castle, follow the municipal road until the bridge over Gaboué torrent.
The trail runs on the left bank of the creek, goes up along some terraces and then goes into the woods until farmhouses in Mosse hamlet.
The path leads to a cultivated grassy plateau and finally, on gravel road, arrives at Saint-Nicolas.

Jovençan - Col de Citrin

One-day excursions  -  Avise

When you get to Jovençan, in the municipality of Avise, continue along the private road until you reach a bend before Rovine, where route 10 starts on the right of the road, marked by a vertical signpost. Go up the valley amid alpine pastures and debris slopes, until you come to Alpe Sorace. From here, continue along the right branch with the same number, as far as Col de Flassin.

Jovençan - Col de Vertosan

One-day excursions  -  Avise

When you get to Jovençan, in the municipality of Avise, continue along the private road, and after Alpe Tronchey, you come to the start of route 30, which is shown on the vertical signpost. Go up the slope, amidst alpine pastures and the debris-covered slopes, until you come to the pasture of Méanaz and finally Col de Vertosan.

Ru de Charbonnière

One-day excursions  -  Avise

Coming from Saint-Nicolas, leave your car in the small parking on the right just before the Charbonnière’ s village.
Continue on the paved road that passes behind the houses and then, unpaved, goes up to the water basin (follow the indications of the “ru”). From here begins the path that runs along the “ru”, the irrigation channel that from Vedun’s area carries the water of the Vertosan creek to the cultivated fields of Avise’s hill.
After a first climbs, the path continues fairly flat, or with short slopes, and shortly after crosses the path of the “Cammineo Balteo” and follows it up to Vedun. The last stretch is taken on the municipal road that reaches the characteristic village.
The whole route is characterized by a magnificent panorama of the mountains of the central valley: Monte Emilius, Becca di Nona and Grivola.

Vedun - Charvaz (La Salle)

One-day excursions  -  Avise

The itinerary starts from Vedun, at the beginning of the Vertosan valley, where you can park your car. The path continues to the left, crosses the characteristic village, also passing under a house, and winds on a scot pine wood.
The trail goes on wide and slightly uphill for about half of the route until you reach a small promontory from where you have an exceptional view of Mont Blanc and Morgex and La Salle basin.
From here the narrowest track reaches the Montagnoulaz mountain pasture and ends in Charvaz.

Vedun - Jovençan

One-day excursions  -  Avise

From Vedun hamlet in Avise village, take the gravel road that winds in Vertosan valley.
Go past Clapey and Maisonnettes old hamlets, go nearer to the torrent until you can cross it on the right and then take the gravel road that arrives from Col de Joux. Continuing across high-altitude pastures you will reach Jovençan village.

Aymavilles (Moulin) - Pont d'Ael

One-day excursions  -  Aymavilles

From Aymavilles, take the road that leads to Villeneuve. After the bridge over the Grand-Eyvia, take mule track 2 which rises, next to a small house called Baracca Marèse. At the crossroad, ignore route 2 on the right for La Cote and continue along the left-hand trail no. 2A until you reach the paved road leading to Seyssogne farmhouse. Take the road towards the left, then leave it on the left, by going round the outer wall of the construction. The trail continues inside the woods alongside the stream. After joining the path from Camagne, the trail crosses a small metal bridge and rises steeply next to a rocky wall before going into a tunnel, which crosses the waterfall flowing down from the overlying water basin. At the tunnel exit, the trail descends slightly until it reaches the Roman bridge of the Pont d’Ael aqueduct and the village of the same name.
