Opening time and fees Programme

The Matterhorn Cervino Speed Opening is the first cross-border ski World Cup race in the history.

Immediately, after the World Cup opener in Sölden, Breuil-Cervinia and Zermatt will host two men’s and two ladies’ downhill races on the «Gran Becca» course, newly designed by 2010 Olympic downhill champion Didier Défago, covering 935 metres of altitude over four kilometres and a maximum speed of 135 km/h.

As the new 3S cable car from Testa Grigia to the Klein Matterhorn, which will connect Breuil-Cervinia to Zermatt all year round, cannot be completed until spring 2023, the start will be moved further down at an altitude of 3,700 m. The finish in Cime Bianche, Breuil-Cervinia, is at 2,835 m.
That makes the Matterhorn Cervino Speed Opening not only the highest downhill race in the World Cup calendar but also the first ever Alpine Ski World Cup on a glacier (with two thirds of the course on the glacier).

Various collateral events with music and entertainment shows are scheduled in Breuil-Cervinia.
