Vapelenentse is a soup which is made using one of the best-known recipes in local cuisine.
It is a typical farmhouse dish made with stale white bread and Fontina cheese. The two ingredients are cut into slices and then placed in layers, one on top of the other and dipped in broth, then covered in melted butter and sprinkled with cinnamon before being baked in the oven.
In the past, white bread, purchased almost exclusively for the sick and the elderly, was quite expensive and therefore used even when it had dried out.
The preparation of the Seupa, today as in the past, involves much of the local community, strengthening a shared sense of belonging and attracting both enthusiasts and visitors.
- The festival is a pleasant opportunity to taste this speciality and other local products.
- Take advantage of the event to visit the Fontina Museum, dedicated to the PDO cheese produced exclusively in the Aosta Valley.
- Relax with a walk along the Ru Pompillard.
- Also discover the surrounding area and the other resorts of the Valpelline valley.
This festival, which is a particularly light-hearted event, takes place every year in Valpelline and it is an ideal occasion to try this delicious recipe accompanied by music and popular folk dances.
