Anne is a lawyer. She has a husband, Pierre, and two adopted girls. One day Theo, Pierre’s 17-year-old son from his previous marriage, arrives at their home. The two initially resent each other and instead become attracted to each other with all the consequences that this relationship can entail.

Director Breillat wants to highlight the purity and intensity of a relationship that, if seen from the outside, can only be deplored.
