FOR CHRISTMAS THE AOSTA VALLEY REGION HAS PREPARED A SPECIAL GIFT: A PRE-OPENING TO DISCOVER THE AYMAVILLES CASTLE

Located in the municipality of Aymavilles, on a hill surrounded by vineyards, in a strategic position at the entrance to the upper Aosta Valley and to the valley of Cogne, the castle of Aymavilles turns on the lights for a special Christmas pre-opening.

At the end of a complex restoration work, it will be possible to visit the castle and appreciate its new appearance immersed in a suggestive and sparkling Christmas atmosphere. A scenography characterized by light installations in shades of white that will allow this elegant residence to return to shine in anticipation of the definitive spring opening.

The complex restoration began in 2000 and involved multiple professionals for historical studies and research, archaeological investigations, design and restorations. The works involved both the architectural structure and the internal decorative apparatuses, managing to enhance the particularities of the various building phases and the numerous alterations over the centuries.
After completing the restoration of the facades, which helped to bring out the double medieval and baroque soul of the castle, the works focused on the interior, revealing the further nature of a nineteenth-century residence attributed to the building by Vittorio Cacherano, the last descendant of the Challant family, owner of the castle.

The museum itinerary with the exhibition of the important and heterogeneous collection of the Académie Saint-Anselme, founded in 1855 with the aim of safeguarding the past through the love for local objects or for the most curious ones, is perfectly in line with the nineteenth-century appearance of the mansion and with the love for collecting typical of the time.

  • Guided tours of the castle (max 25 people)
  • Tickets can be purchased online from December
  • To access the castle, it is necessary to have a Covid-19 green certification

From 10 January 2022 the castle will be closed but it will definitively reopen in April 2022.
