The thrill of ski mountaineering on the Rutor Glacier

The Aosta Valley boasts a long-standing ski mountaineering tradition.
For years, the names Arvier and Valgrisenche have been linked to the international competition Millet Tour du Rutor Extrême, a unique biennial team race renowned for its challenge and spectacular setting, attracting top athletes from around the world. The heart of the event? The majestic Rutor Glacier, the centerpiece of an unparalleled adventure.

The 22nd edition takes place on the last weekend of March (Saturday 28 and Sunday 29), featuring the main race and youth category courses.

A weekend of adrenaline and excitement

On the last weekend of March, Arvier, Valgrisenche, and La Thuile become the stage for two unforgettable days:

  • Saturday: the opening race starts in the centre of La Thuile and finishes in Valgrisenche, with over 2,400 m of ascent and a historic glacier crossing.
  • Sunday: the decisive stage unfolds in Planaval, in the municipality of Arvier, with a spectacular loop around Château-Blanc and a climb to 3,422 m. Positive elevation gain: about 2,300 m.

An experience to share

The Tour du Rutor is a celebration for the entire community: an opportunity to experience the mountains, discover authentic places, and savor Aosta Valley’s finest traditions. For spectators, it’s the perfect chance to immerse themselves in a unique environment and feel the atmosphere of a great challenge.
