This route gradually climbs uphill from the valley, but stays within an area known for its quaint villages, pastures, and orchards. Here you will be able to enjoy secret views of the rural Aosta Valley frozen in time.
Description of the route
Leaving the historical centre of Nus, this route leads to high-altitude hamlets where one can take a path leading to Quart Castle, which coincides with a leg of the famous Via Francigena. Once you have passed the castle, the original foundation of which dates back to the late 11th century, the path coasts along the hillside, joining up with Rue Prévôt and leading you easily to Roisan.
Along this route, visitors can appreciate the extraordinary medieval aqueduct-bridge of Grand-Arvou in Chiou di Porossan. This masterpiece in medieval plumbing and engineering was built upon order of Enrico di Quart, provost of the Aosta Cathedral, between the end of the 13th century and beginning of the 14th.
You can then continue on to Roisan, overlooking the course of the Buthier creek and enjoying a splendid view of Aosta and the towns leading into the Valpelline Valley.
