Downhill skiing: Courmayeur

At the bottom of a basin overlooked by the Mont Blanc chain lies Courmayeur (1224 m), with the Courmayeur Mont Blanc Funivie ski area.
The runs are located on two different sides, Val Vény and Plan Chécrouit, and reach up as far as the Cresta d’Arp, at an altitude of 2755 m.
The ski area can be reached thanks to the two cableways, located in Courmayeur (Courmayeur cableway) and Entrèves (Val Veny cableway), and the Dolonne gondola lift that starts out from the little village of the same name.
A broad return slope with artificial snow cover links Plan Chécrouit with Dolonne, where there is a play park equipped with a magic carpet for beginners and children (paying).
The artificial snow, produced for over 80% of the ski area, guarantees quality snow cover on all the runs.
Freeriding fans can reach some fabulous off-piste routes in the upper part of the ski area, with views of Mont Blanc, for which individual safety equipment and the assistance of an alpine guide are required.

Non-skiers will enjoy the view of wonderful peaks using the lifts: the Maison Vieille chairlift, the Chécrouit gondola lift and the Youla and Arp cableways.

The Courmayeur cableway,which is located in the town center, will be open every night until midnight, allowing apres-ski lovers to stay up have a drink , a dinner enjoying the sunset in the snow and the lights of the villages seen from above.

This beautiful, off-slope descent is on Col di Toula allows you to arrive to Pavillon and weather permitting, up to the mouth of the Mount Blanc tunnel, with a difference in height of over 2,000 metres. The descent (12 km) is reserved for good skiers and offers routes with high mountain features on a glacier. There is a variety of descent itineraries.

You quickly reach Colle del Toula at a height of 3.440 m.: from here, in a few minutes you can go down the metal stairs that leads to the glacier, where the descent begins among the crevasses and channels up to the slopes that lead to the mid-way Pavillon ski resort.

Minimum level requested
Itinerary reserved for good skiers who are comfortable on the black slopes with bumps and on all types of snow, those who want to start skiing off slope or any skiers used to skiing off slope, perhaps without style but with good control of their skis.

Equipment: ARVA (avalanche search equipment), shovel, probe.

If you take these routes without mountain guides, you will do so at your own risk and danger.

The fabulous crossing of Vallée Blanche: 24 Km descent, 18 Km of which on a glacier, surrounded by the beauty of incomparable scenery.
Depart from Punta Helbronner (3.466 m) to reach Chamonix (1.000 m) with skis on foot. The descent, which is not sign-posted, extends along challenging glaciers, including granite pinnacles. It normally takes 4-5 hours, including breaks, to reach Chamonix: the Requin refuge is located about halfway along the route which, among fantastic scenery, allows you to take refreshments with food and hot drinks.

At the end of the season the weather is less stable and the lack of snow may mean you’ll need to get a train from the last section to reach Chamonix, which helps you avoid a long walk.
You return by crossing the Mount Blanc tunnel.

In January and February the snow conditions and the weather are generally excellent along the entire route with predominantly winter snowy conditions. From early March and during the entire month of April the snowy carpet is generally transformed. It is likely during these months to travel a section on foot or take the Montenvers train to reach Chamonix.

Level: average skiers used to red level slopes. The level can vary based on glacier conditions.
For more expert skiers it is possible to take alternative routes to classic routes.
