N.B.: Taking note of the implications relating to the risk of spreading lumpy skin disease, which constitutes a significant health risk for livestock farms in our region, and following the indications of the regional health authority which recommends increasing biosecurity measures, the Association's steering committee has reluctantly decided to cancel the 2025 edition of the Alpages Ouverts event.
A full day on a mountain dairy farm together with those who work there all summer, following the pace set by the animals and the mountain environment. Guided visits, lunch with typical produce, polenta, Fontina and fresh cheeses.
The formula of the event is quite simple: visitors are invited to experience a typical day’s activities on the farm, to see the tools that are used and to find out about all the various aspects related to the farm and the pastures, through a series of guided routes ilustrating what happens in the various areas, especially in the daity itself, where the delicious Fontina cheese is made.
The Eau noire alpine pasture is located at an altitude of 2,000 m a.s.l. at the foot of the Matterhorn and covers about 50 hectares.
Mountain pasture products: the milk is taken to the Valle del Cervino dairy where it is transformed into Fontina DOP, toma, ricotta, brossa and butter.
