The Alpenzu Grande mountain hut is a distinctive building situated at 1,779 m in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, nestled within an ancient Walser village that preserves its traditional stone and timber houses, the stadel (wood and stone structures that served as barns), the village oven, the fountain and the chapel; it is surrounded by pastures, meadows and what were once fields of rye, barley, oats and potatoes.
The refuge consists of a main building with two rooms, each sleeping six, and four double rooms situated in a stadel in front. Each room has its own bathroom and shower. The Alpenzu Grande Refuge has electricity and offers its guests a bar and restaurant service, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The building, rebuilt on the site of the original structure, has been open since 1992, whilst in 2024 a lightweight canopy was installed over the outdoor seating area where guests can enjoy meals al fresco.
