The Elena mountain hut, spacious and comfortable, is situated at the head of the Val Ferret, at an altitude of 2.061 metres, facing the ancient Pré de Bard glacier. A key stop on the Tour du Mont Blanc, it is located just an hour from the Swiss border and can be reached via the Col Ferret. The first refuge, later destroyed by an avalanche, was built in honour of Queen Elena, consort of King Victor Emmanuel III.
The refuge is situated in a pleasant mid-mountain setting, characterised by vast pastures and spectacular views. The view of the Pré de Bard glacier is breathtaking.

  • The refuge is open only during the summer season
  • Camping near the refuge is prohibited
  • Dogs are not allowed to stay overnight

  • Wi-Fi connection not always guaranteed, so please bring cash as an alternative payment method

accessibility

As a result of the mapping carried out in 2023 as part of the "Lo sci per tutte le abilità" (Skiing for everyone) project, the following was found:

  • The entrance to the building is provided by a sheet-metal ramp that guarantees adequate manoeuvring space for wheelchair users
  • The toilets on the ground floor are equipped with suitable aids
  • With sufficient advance notice, the owners can provide transport for people with reduced mobility and/or sensory impairments to enable them to access the hut via the rural road
