Mario Bezzi

The Bezzi mountain hut is situated near Alpe Vaudet, in Valgrisenche, at an altitude of 2,284 metres. Open during the summer season, it welcomes hikers and mountain lovers, offering a place to eat and an ideal starting point for exploring the region. Built between 1925 and 1927 to serve as a mountaineering and military base, it owes its name to Mario Bezzi, one of the most illustrious members of the Turin section of the CAI.

The original building is the twin of the Gian Federico Benevolo refuge, situated on the western slope of the neighbouring Rhêmes valley, at the same altitude, with a difference of barely one metre above sea level.

The Bezzi refuge is also an ideal starting point for hikes and climbs to discover the magnificent panoramas at the head of the Valgrisenche. Recently renovated, the refuge offers the opportunity to reach the Chalet de l’Epée refuge, the Benevolo refuge and other refuges, including those on French territory. The establishment also serves traditional mountain cuisine.

How to get there 

On foot: before reaching the hamlet of Usellières, where the road into Valgrisenche ends, take route no. 12, which leads to the refuge, first along a dirt track and then along a footpath. During the climb, you can admire a magnificent landscape full of flowers, waterfalls and streams.
