Description of the route

This is one of the best-known itineraries by Aostans, owing to its short distance from the city. It can be done in no time at all, leaving from the Arch of Augustus and turning left immediately after the bridge over the Buthier (trail no. 6 is shown on the vertical signpost). Go under the state road and turn left towards Beauregard hospital. At the first junction on the left (between the road for the Beauregard and Via Seigneurs de Quart), take the small steep road on the right. Along the way you come to the tiny church of Sant’Orso (frescoed façade), built on the place where the saint is said to have performed a miracle, then you continue, leaving Milleluci campsite on the left and Jocteau castle on the right, home of the Alpine Military School. On the grass field to the right, note a curious cone measuring around sixty metres in diameter, with a vineyard and tool shed on top of it, probably a burial ground dating back to the Iron Age. At the end of the small road, take the main road towards the forest rangers’ post. Continue along this road for less than 100 m, then at a left-hand bend, take the small road that goes up to the right and continue until you reach a hairpin bend in the paved road from Arsin. Here, take the signposted road on the right, enter Tsatelet reserve and shortly afterwards you come to the rounded summit.
The view sweeps over the peaks surrounding Aosta, Monte Emilius, Becca di Nona and the Great St Bernard Valley, overlooked by the imposing Grand Combin.
