The Giorgio Bertone Mountain Hut (2,000 m) is situated in the Pennine Alps, near the small village of Le Pré, above Courmayeur. Built in 1982 and dedicated to the memory of mountaineer Giorgio Bertone, it overlooks the majestic Mont Blanc massif. Thanks to its panoramic setting and the area’s captivating natural surroundings, the refuge has quickly become one of the most popular and highly regarded destinations in the region. Situated along the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) route, it is an ideal stop for hikers of all levels, offering a warm welcome and an authentic mountain experience.

The hut is open only during the summer season. Camping near the hut is prohibited. Dogs are not permitted.

How to get there 

On foot:

  • Starting from the bridge just beyond Planpincieux, follow trail n. 31. After passing through the copse, the path opens out into a clearing. A picturesque and scenic route, ideal for families. Access from Planpincieux is only available during the summer months.

  • Starting from Courmayeur - Val Sapin, and more specifically from Villair Superiore,  following trail n. 42 – a slightly steeper trail than the first, suitable for more experienced hikers.

How to get here

By car

Courmayeur motorway exit.
After the Courmayeur motorway exit carry on towards the Traforo del Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc Tunnel) for approximately 4 km going past the hamlet of Entrèves. On the last hairpin bend before the tunnel it is possible to exit the main road and go onto the road which leads to Val Ferret. Carry on for approximately 5 km up to the built-up area of Planpincieux  where you can park your car in a paying car park. You can reach the Refuge in approximately one and a half hours.
The  Ferret  Valley is a restricted-access area. Public car parks are subject to a charge and, once they are full, the road is closed. A shuttle bus service is available.

By public transport

The nearest train station is in Aosta.
Regular bus service to Courmayeur (approximately 15 trips a day).
Regular bus local line to Val Ferret (approximately 15 trips a day).
