The Chalet de l’Epée mountain refuge 2,370 m is located in the municipality of Valgrisenche. The refuge is situated near the Alpe Epée mountain pasture, at the foot of the Vallone del Bouc, on the right-hand side of the Valgrisenche valley, near Lake Beauregard. This is a private mountain hut that is open during the summer season, roughly from mid-June to mid-September. The mountain hut is located on the Haute Route Glaciaire (HRG).
The building has been adapted to improve accessibility and remove architectural barriers. People with disabilities can also reach the refuge via a farm track, which is not open to unauthorised vehicles.
Certified and compliant with “UNI EN ISO 14001” standards for the management of Alpine refuges.
How to get there in summer
On foot:
- from Mondanges, follow the Alta Via 2 or route no. 9, a path that climbs through a larch forest and continues towards the Prariond huts (2,038 m), passing close to the Carrà chapel. After the huts, the trail continues to climb through pastures, blueberry bushes and junipers.

- high mountain guides or nature with at least 10 customers and a reduction for those with at least 5 customers;
- overnight stay for coach drivers and holiday representatives who are providing assistance to groups of at least 25 persons, organised by travel and tourist agencies.
How to get here
By car
Take the Aosta Ovest-Aymavilles motorway exit.
Continue straight on towards Aosta until you reach the roundabout: here, turn left and follow the SS 26 road towards Mont Blanc. You will reach the village of Leverogne, a hamlet of Arvier, where the road to Valgrisenche begins. Follow this road for about 20 km until you reach the main town. Continue straight on towards Bonne or further on to the Surier/Ursellières car park
By public transport
The nearest train station is in Aosta.
Scheduled Coach service as far as Valgrisenche (approximately 3 trips a day).
