Within the Gran Paradiso National Park, in Cogne in the Valnontey area, an area of respect and absolute protection for the nesting of the Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus barbatus L.) has been established. The closed zone was established precisely to protect this bird of prey which became extinct in 1913 and which, in the last few years, has returned to populate the valleys of the Park.
In the protection zone, in order to reduce disturbance of the nesting sites, the following is prohibited: access to the area, including for close observation activities and for photos or filming, the use of drones, in addition to the ban on climbing on some ice waterfalls (involved in the protection zone are those called: Gusto di Scozia, Flash estivo, Fiumana di Money, Fallo di Plutone, Coupé Money, Cascata della pazienza, cascata della rassegnazione, Meeting 2000, Sweet Valentina, Voglia di tenerezza).
In the Gran Paradiso National Park and other protected areas it is always a good idea to find out about any areas prohibited for climbing to protect the nesting of birds of prey or to respect areas dedicated to the wintering of fauna.
