Getting around Valle d'Aosta by train, an almost ....."philosophical" choice
Travelling by train is "a journey within a journey" in a "philosophical" way: trains have made history and revolutionised transport and furthermore travelling by train gives us the opportunity to contemplate the countryside and daydream for a while.
Departing from Aosta by train, in less than an hour you will reach the municipalities of Nus (10 mins), Châtillon/Saint-Vincent (20 mins), Verrès (30 mins), Bard (40 mins, the site of the famous Fortress) and Pont-Saint-Martin (45 mins).
The "Aosta - Pont-Saint-Martin" railway line, managed by Trenitalia, then continues out of the Aosta Valley towards Ivrea, Chivasso and Turin, in Piedmont.
To reach the side valleys or the upper Aosta Vallley it is necessary to take the bus lines.
Attention: due to railway electrification works, the rail transport service along the Ivrea-Aosta stretch, from 3rd January 2024 until 13th December 2026, will be carried out by bus. |
