Built starting in 1883 on a rocky outcrop overlooking the old village of Pont‑Saint‑Martin, Baraing Castle was commissioned by Dr. Pietro Annibale Baraing, a physician and philanthropist, and a prominent figure in local history.

Designed in Neo‑Gothic style, in keeping with the taste of the period, the building features a quadrangular plan with towers, battlements, and bifora (double‑arched) windows, and was originally surrounded by a large garden with greenhouses and fountains. Construction was completed by 1893.

In 1931, by testamentary disposition of his wife Delfina Bianco, the castle was donated to the Municipality of Pont‑Saint‑Martin, which used it as the town hall. From the post‑war period until the early 1960s, it housed the Regional Vocational Training School.

After a period of abandonment, the building was restored and today serves as the headquarters of the Unité des Communes valdôtaines Mont‑Rose, continuing to fulfil a public and institutional role.
