La Crotta di Vegneron

An ancient and deep-rooted tradition for a wide range of wines
La Crotta di Vegneron is located at Chambave, one of the most arid parts of the Aosta Valley, a climatic feature that underlies the ancient and consolidated wine-making tradition of this district. There are two Controlled Denomination of Origin (DOC) zones: Chambave and Nus. The first includes the hills of the "adret " (sun-facing slopes) of Châtillon, Saint-Vincent, Verrayes, Saint-Denis and Chambave; the other, Nus, also includes the vine growing lands of Fénis, a municipality situated on the opposite side of the Dora Baltea (envers). The number of bottles produced annually by La Crotta is around 350 thousand, divided between 19 different qualities of wine, 15 of which are DOC: Muscat and Malvoisie are the jewel in the crown. Two versions of the Chambave Muscat are produced, a dry and pleasantly aromatic version and a flétri (raisin wine), sweeter and with limited production. The Nus Malvoisie, on the other hand, is produced from Pinot Gris grapes and its flétri version is particularly appreciated. Two other white wines deserve a mention, produced from Müller Thurgau and Pinot Noir (using the white winemaking technique) grapes respectively, which are backed up by a wide range of red wines: Chambave, Nus, including the “Supérieur” version. In addition, La Crotta produces a late harvest of Müller Thurgau grapes. It is open to the public from Monday to Friday, from 8.30 to 12.00 and 14.00 to 17.00, while on Saturdays it is only open in the morning.
