Larry Rivers
The Gamba Castle of Châtillon presents the exhibition Larry Rivers.
The three faces of Primo Levi, a project of the Pinacoteca Giovanni and Marella Agnelli, edited by its director Marcella Pralormo.
An exclusive opportunity to admire three portraits of Primo Levi, not visible to the public, painted by the American artist Larry Rivers and now kept in the offices of Giovanni and Marella Agnelli picture-gallery, in Turin. Larry Rivers, whose real name is Yitzhok Loiza Grossberg (1923-2002), was born in America from Jewish Russian parents. In 1945, shortly after he changed his name, Rivers began to paint, becoming a protagonist of American pop art.
The different identities of Primo Levi struck the artist: a Turin chemist, deported as a partisan and identified as a Jew, who survived to the extermination that became, later, famous as a writer. To best express his vision of Memory and Death, the artist uses the technique of cancellation with figures not fully present on the scene.
Opening: 11th May 2018, at 6.00 pm
